The national flag of Ethiopia consists of three wide horizontal stripes of green, yellow and red with an emblem of a radiant star surrounded by blue.

The flag shall have the colours; green at the top, yellow at the middle and red at the bottom together with a national emblem of circular blue background. The emblem shall be set at the center of the flag in such a way that its circumference curves on the mid point of the width of both the green and red colours.

What the colours symbolise varies depending on point of view. However, generally, red represents blood spilled in defence of Ethiopia; yellow represents peace and harmony between Ethiopia’s various ethnic and religious groups; and green is said to symbolize hope, or the land and its fertility.
